Duncan Alcorn of Interism
What first got you into music?
First started learning music at 10yrs old at school. I played the alto sax in the school performance band and the local area band. I have always loved music and found my niche playing guitar and bass. Really got into music in the late 80's and 90's rock like Gunners, Motley Crue, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Pumpkins and Faith No More. Surf/Skate punk music in the 90's really got my juices flowing and I went from there.
Who inspired you to make music?
My music comes from my musical background. I don't try to play a certain genre. Interism gives the freedom to explore all musical influences. My lyrics/song writing comes from life experience and established beliefs formed over time with friends and my beautiful wife. The song Lately of the Avondale st album was absolutely and unashamedly written for her.
What makes you guys as a band click?
We have the same ideals in music. We’re open to all ideas and absolutely enjoy every minute playing music, we have a fat old time playing and rehearsing but pride ourselves on being professional and making the best music we can.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
An Interesting blend of musical influences. We are 90’s kids so our music is clearly heavily influenced by 90’s grunge like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins. Surf/Skate Punk like Pennywise, Sublime and NOFX are also a large influence. Bands like At the Drive-In and Biffy Clyro unconsciously comes out in our music and we also like nothing more than a solid heavy change which comes from a pension for heavier stuff like Deftones.
What is your creative process like?
Take a simple idea, expand, mould and evolve.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

What is your favourite song to perform?
We have a few new ones that we are into at the moment , Honestly and Shit tonne of Blow are a bit of fun.

Beatles, Hendrix, Bruce Springstein, Gunners, NOFX, Lagwagon, RATM, Sublime, Pennywise, Pearl Jam, Pumpkins, Faith No More, Van Morrison, Violent Femmes, Deftones, the Police, Beastie Boys, Primus, At the Drive-In, Biffy Clyro and Bon Iver. To name a few.

What’s next for you?
We are recording a new single in the next couple of months and will do some touring on the back of that. We also are shooting a film clip for the song Pandanus of our current Album ‘Avondale st’.
Who would win in an arm wrestle, Lemmy or God?
I don’t think Lemmy and God reside in the same place.
